Competitive Edge: Failure to Brew

For a while now I’ve been brewing for Standard. Sticking to an Esper shell, I’ve made several control decks with different win conditions, tried my hand at making Chalice of Life work in an artifact combo deck, and finally have switched to aggro with an illusion/spirit tribal deck. I’m no Conley Woods, so naturally all of my decks have failed miserably. So now I’m going back to control, where I’m most comfortable, examining other Esper control decks in the format and finding one I’d like to play.

September Limited and Forbidden List

As most of you might be aware, the September Limited and Forbidden List has now been officially announced a few days ago for both OCG and TCG formats. Although both formats generally have the same lists, I have been refraining from mentioning anything about it until the official list for TCG has been released – since there are several differences which (you never know) might be given exceptions but thankfully, this hasn’t been the case.

Other Advantages

Doctrine – Advantages Part 3: Other Advantages

Welcome to the part 3 of articles on core Yugioh strategy – Other Advantages. In this part we will cover all the other advantages that we have not covered in the previous 2 articles, which are deck, graveyard, removal and tempo advantages. For those who read the previous 2 articles, while these still counts as advantages, they are not influential as the previous ones. However, it doesn’t hurt to know them as under certain situations it will become useful and having access to more knowledge contributes to improvements to your skill. Again, if you are not sure after reading it over a few times, simply ask via the comment box at the bottom of the article.

Card Advantages

Doctrine – Advantages Part 1: Card Advantages

Welcome to the part 1 of articles on core Yugioh strategy – Advantages. I’ve decided to split this into 3 parts to make it easier for you to understand and at the same time won’t overload and send you to sleep. I understand these types of articles will create lots of constructive discussion (both for and against) which I do encourage. There will be plenty of strategic thinking and scenarios involved so read over it many times and then ask if you don’t understand.

Life and Information Advantages

Doctrine – Advantages Part 2: Life and Information Advantages

Welcome to the part 2 of articles on core Yugioh strategy – Advantages. In this part we will cover Life and Information Advantages. For those who read the previous article, there will be a lot more thinking involved for this one so if you are not sure after reading it over a few times, simply ask via the comment box at the bottom of the article.

Onward Avian Soldiers, as marching onto banning

Jace_Stoneforge_Banned

We stand on the precipice of the format degenerating into nothing but Caw-Blade mirrors, for those lucky enough to own a set of the innocuous Worldwake rares (funny how that turned out huh?? A Stoneforge deck that turned out to be a Jace deck…). But regardless of all this flak surrounding the format, as many have said it has truly become a mirror world in the winners’ bracket.

Of War, Peace and Battered skulls

Cawblade

As I begin writing this, I am currently preparing and brainstorming what I can run for my next FNM in order to get what little practice I can get in while being an Electrical Engineering student (yeah, I’m a whiner). Batterskull and Sword of War and Peace are sure to leave their drastic effects on the format (or to borrow the words of another writer…”leave a crater sized impact”).

What is this?

Game Days are the first opportunity for you to play Standard on a global scale with the newest cards. This is a great time to get out there and test out those newly created decks.
