Dark World FAQ

As the excitement of the new Dark World structure deck spreads to all duelists, I decided to put this FAQ together to cover the basics of Dark World as I know from personal experience it is actually very confusing, especially for beginners. So for the benefit of all duelists, and especially if you want to build a Dark World deck, please read this FAQ – as playing with the proper rules and effects is a duelist’s responsibility – which contributes to a better gaming environment and is reflected in improvements in any duelist’s skill.

Basic Staples of Yugioh

Yugioh Staples

Before I start, let me explain what “staple” means. Staple is a term commonly used to describe cards which are “a must have” in almost any type of decks, unless you have very good reason not to use them. The term “staple” does have a very broad definition but every time I go to Battlecraft, I often see questionable moments where some people don’t have certain cards in their deck (even though they have a copy of it in their spare cards) for the weirdest reasons – which unfortunately makes no sense, and frankly, are preventing them from winning games which they should be winning.

Onward Avian Soldiers, as marching onto banning

Jace_Stoneforge_Banned

We stand on the precipice of the format degenerating into nothing but Caw-Blade mirrors, for those lucky enough to own a set of the innocuous Worldwake rares (funny how that turned out huh?? A Stoneforge deck that turned out to be a Jace deck…). But regardless of all this flak surrounding the format, as many have said it has truly become a mirror world in the winners’ bracket.

New Phyrexia Event Decks Released!

EventDecks

The New Phyrexia Event Decks will be available for sale in English, French, German, Italian, and Japanese on June 10, 2011 for $29.90 (Rot from within) and $49.90 (War of Attrition). Unlike Intro Packs, which are for fairly new players, these are designed to let you enter the world of tournament play knowing you’ve got a powerful deck that will let you be immediately competitive.

Of War, Peace and Battered skulls

Cawblade

As I begin writing this, I am currently preparing and brainstorming what I can run for my next FNM in order to get what little practice I can get in while being an Electrical Engineering student (yeah, I’m a whiner). Batterskull and Sword of War and Peace are sure to leave their drastic effects on the format (or to borrow the words of another writer…”leave a crater sized impact”).

Building a Deck Using Birthing Pod

Birthing Pod, Magic, New PhyrexiaI like the card Birthing Pod and think that a deck built around it would be a lot of fun to play. I really enjoy the interactions between this card and some of the other cards currently in standard. There seem to be two logical colour combinations to build a birthing pod deck in standard, Green/White and Green/Black.

Today we’ll discuss the green/black variant but I might be splashing blue for a card that has got a lot of hype since it was spoilt, Deceiver Exarch. The new Pestermite allows you to skip from a 2 drop to a 4 drop and the 4 drops are more exciting than the 3 drops you can get. Also the sooner you get to Acidic Slime the better.
