On second thought…not *exactly*…
It is a weird time to be one of the vocal people to have banned Stoneforge Mystic and Jace the Mind Sculptor and to yet watch it stay as one of the top dogs for the new metagame. Important proponents like Brian Kibler and Mike Flores have examined why CawBlade refuses to die and what makes a good deck “good” (another article by Paulo Vitor on “good decks” is also a good reference point as well).

Hello everyone again, I apologise for a sudden dry up of writing material (yes, even sparser than before…) but pre and post Australian Nationals has fatigued my thinking centres and I found it difficult to write about something useful in such a turbulent time.
But with different Nationals around the world we see the metagame solidifying past the Jaceforge Ban (for those who are unaware: the ban of Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic in Standard). Before Nationals the people I practiced with considered the following major players in the metagame:
When: Saturday 16th July 2011 @ 12 Noon
What: Sealed Deck 6 boosters of Magic 2012 Coreset
The recent banning of both Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic in Standard have breathed new life into the format. We have a metagame now! Which is, like, totally cool and stuff. But what exactly is the meta? What does the format look like?
There’s been much buzz about Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas and Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle decks ruling the format, but it’s actually quite a bit more vibrant than that. With the bannings and M12 about to be released, the format has been blown right open as if there’s been a rotation (well, really, there kinda has been.) Here are the decks that should be in the format, or will be given time, starting with…

We stand on the precipice of the format degenerating into nothing but Caw-Blade mirrors, for those lucky enough to own a set of the innocuous Worldwake rares (funny how that turned out huh?? A Stoneforge deck that turned out to be a Jace deck…). But regardless of all this flak surrounding the format, as many have said it has truly become a mirror world in the winners’ bracket.
The New Phyrexia Event Decks will be available for sale in English, French, German, Italian, and Japanese on June 10, 2011 for $29.90 (Rot from within) and $49.90 (War of Attrition). Unlike Intro Packs, which are for fairly new players, these are designed to let you enter the world of tournament play knowing you’ve got a powerful deck that will let you be immediately competitive.
I have a little bit of a confession to make. Well, it’s not so much a confession as an admission. An admission of a problem. Well, not so much a problem as an addiction. Which is in itself a problem, so I guess ultimately I’m admitting that I have a problem. And so the cycle continues.
